how I am using the site

personalhundomentals-philosophy

I’m writing this on 3 March 2026. We went to war with Iran a few days ago. I’ve got two kids with futures I’m worried about. I’m writing this in an era of software development where job security is both guaranteed and in flux. You Can Build Anything in 2 Weeks as a software engineer, but you can get replaced just as fast.

As of the time of writing, I’ve done a lot of introspecting. Journaling is ridiculously valuable for this. My findings have been overall unpleasant.

  • Far too little attention paid to upskilling
  • Far too much attention paid to <This Week’s Bad Thing>
  • Far too little agency to affect <This Week’s Bad Thing>
  • Far too little willpower to change to improve any of the above conditions

This is not a Boo Hoo Woe Is Me moment. My ambition for this site, in transitioning it from a blog to whatever this is now, is to serve as both a repository of information I find valuable, gathered in the process of improving the above conditions, and to serve as a log of where I’ve come. It will be an information repository for you and for me.

It will also serve as a way to force me to really put effort into my writing and research habit. As an idea, it’s ripped off from Gwern, a figure I have a growing admiration for whose site served as inspiration for just what written content in the Twitter era can be.

The content, as it grows, will serve as both a log of my research into things I’m interested in, updates on projects I’m working on/with or are passionate about, and will serve as a place where I can offer more nuanced opinions than what is typically tossed in a tweet.

I hope to write fiction here soon, as well.

My goals are to gain depth of understanding in the technical domains, but to also develop breadth of knowledge and experience in art, music, philosophy and language. I want to learn to produce music, even if it’s always bad, as well as graphic design, animation and illustration. This will be the place for all of that.

Posting bad drawings isn’t going to… fix Iran or whatever. The world is going to keep burning. My hope is not for this site to be some sort of world-saving device. My goal is for it to serve as an information repository and a log of how I became someone who maybe made a difference in the world some day.
